This is our second cache in our "Wide Spot" series. Instead of trying to come up with a fancy name, we decided to just describe the spot it is at. The new container is a camo plastic container just a bit bigger than a deck of cards. There is room for a few small items. Please, bring your own pen or pencil.
This wide spot is at the top of Blanchard Hill and it can be busy! Stealth may be required. (The day I put out the container, there were 3 cars here!) It is used as a parking area for hikers, target shooters, and hunters (during the right seasons). In fact, in the fall, some hunters use it as their base camp.
The wide spot used to be fairly clean, but since the area has been logged, people have been dumping trash. Or maybe, the trees hid the garbage. There were a few places that caught our eye on our travels past here that we thought would make a good cache location. Alas, upon closer inspection, they were not suitable. Our first container was out in the open by design, and it was tampered with once and then disappeared. Our new hiding place is about 20 feet from the original location nestled under a smaller tree with a low "skirt".
Get out and stretch those legs, and grab that "smiley"!
The locals refer to this hill as "the hump". We have heard many of them say, "I went over the hump to Spokane"! After releasing this cache, I thought I should have named it "Over the Hump"! Oh, well....
