The North Cascades Highway was completed September 2, 1972, connecting the Skagit River Valley with the Methow Valley. Each year it closes due to snow accumulation and avalanch dangers. Each spring, many anxiously await it's reopening which not only provides direct access to the beloved Methow Valley, on day one there are the cinnamon rolls.
This cache is placed at a road side pull out just past Rockport. From the pullout you will have an awesome view of a beaver dam and pond. Beavers are among the largest of rodents and are primarily nocturnal. They are herbivores and prefer to eat leaves, bark, twigs, roots, and aquatic plants. The dome-like structures that they build, called lodges, are constructed of branches and mud. They are often strategically located in the middle of ponds and can only be reached by underwater entrances.
