Geocache Description:

Wind Power Circular

When we were out scouting the route for this series, a wind turbine was being erected at the equestrian centre. We realised that this was visible from most, if not all, of the route and decided that this was as good a name as any for our third series of caches.

This circular route, of about 4 ½ miles, takes in canal side, public footpaths, green lanes and two short stretches of quite busy road, where you will need to take care, especially with Geo-kids and Geo-mutts. Some of the footpaths can get extremely muddy, as we found in the drought of April 2012! Some of the fields do hold livestock, so you may need to keep Geo-mutts on a lead for part of the walk. Some of the paths are close to either the canal or the river, where you will need to keep small Geo-kids close at hand.

We first starting scouting this route out in March 2012, things certainly looked a lot different when we placed the caches in May, with knee high grass, bushy hedgerows, planted fields and more nettles than you can shake a stick at! We’ve gone with our original hiding places, which does mean that some of them will be far easier to find in the winter time. All good fun!!

We have rated the difficulty and terrain of the caches based on the situation in May, if you think we’ve got any of these wrong then please do let us know.

There are a couple of spots around the series where there is parking on the roadside for 1 or 2 cars, including very close to the first cache of the series. There is also parking at Grendon church, if you want to start your walk part way round. If you park at the church you could always pick up one of our Village Church Series caches.

The stretch of the footpath between caches 6 and 7 isn't well marked, but we've given directions within the cache descriptions to keep you on track.

The stretch of footpath between caches 7 and 12 is well marked, but doesn’t seem very well used, so, in May, was quite overgrown in places, though the views were absolutely stunning.

Whilst there is not really a natural refreshment break on this walk there are lots of good spots for a picnic lunch. In our opinion, the perfect spot is at cache 3, assuming you are caching in good weather.

Our aim with this series was to provide a good variety of different types of caches. Some are easy, some are a bit sneaky and may need a bit of ingenuity to find. A number are placed in homage to excellent caches we've come across on our travels. If we've copied any of yours then please do take it as a compliment.

A few have room for swaps and travel bugs, but the majority are micros or nanos.

There are a couple of other caches that you will actually pass, if completing the whole series - GC3K7GP (Mr GD’s Bridge to Nowhere) and GC1T6GT (one of the Atherstone Locks’ series), you may as well pick these up whilst you are out. We were actually planning on using the spot that Enilu & Mr GB have used for the Bridge to Nowhere, but we were beaten to it!! Hence, there is quite a gap between 1 and 2 of the series.

We have left a first to complete the series prize in the final cache. Please do only take this if you have found all caches in the series.

Good luck and we hope you enjoy our third series of caches.

The cache is a well hidden nano, with just enough room for the log. You will need to bring your own scribbling stick.
