At 11:30 a.m. on May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, become the first explorers to reach the summit of Mount Everest, which at 29,035 feet above sea level is the highest point on earth.

May 29th 1917 John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Brookline MASS, (Senator-D-MA), 35th President (1961-1963)

May 29th 1968: Manchester United won the European Cup beating Portuguese side Benfica by four goals to one.

29th May 2003: Born Leslie Townes Hope, Bob Hope celebrated his 100th birthday.
b May 29, 1903 Eltham, London, England.
