Geocache Description:

Paden City High School 3rd Reincarnation on nearby site
Congrats to smithdk ftf

The original “one-room schoolhouse” was located across from the Wesleyan Church (both built in 1870). The second (a 4 roomer) was built on the current site in 1912. The school was then in two rented locations until 1922, when a Junior High School was built. Senior high students rode the trolley to Magnolia High School in New Martinsville or to Sistersville High School until 1951. A bond passed in 1949 for Wetzel County to build a high school, and The Annual Labor Day Celebration was started to raise funds. Workers at the local mills and plants gave $2 a week of their wages, a hefty sum at that time.
On January 8, 1975 a fire demolished the high school, leaving only the gymnasium standing. Again the town rallied and the current high school was completed and dedicated May 1, 1977. Classes until then were held in churches, basements, and portable trailers on Berger Field. The school was again saved in 2010 from a county school merger by the townspeople and supporters. See Wikipedia for the full story.
The Wildcat Football Team began in the 1920’s, the school adopted the name in the 1940’s.
