Geocache Description:

A nice walk along a well maintained trail with marker posts every 200m, great views and a waterfall after rain.

Hale Conservation Park was named after Herbert M. Hale who was a past Director of the South Australian Museum and Commissioner of National Parks and Wildlife Reserves until 1963. The park was established in 1964.
The Hale Hike (or Hale Circuit, as it is also known) is a 4km walk through natural bushland that takes about 2 hours to complete.
In spring there are lots of flowers including native orchids and the creek will probably be running and spilling over the waterfall located at the approximate mid-point of the trail. There are also lots of grass trees (aka Black-Boys, Yukkas, Yackas) in this area. Keep an eye out for various birds and wildlife including kangaroos, lizards, echidna and, in the warmer months, be aware of snakes.
There are many rocky outcrops and lookouts from where you can see parts of Williamstown, the South Para dam wall, Mount Gawler, the Devil’s Nose at Para Wirra, and even Mount Lofty. On a clear day you might also catch a glimpse of the Roseworthy grain storage facilities and the Amcor glass manufacturing plant in the distance.
Another interesting feature along the trail is the old mica diggings area. The diggings have exposed white quartz as well as mica. The hole at the site may have been an exploratory digging for gold.
The trail is well marked and signposted every 200 metres. There is a laminated information brochure available at the start of the track. Take it with you on your walk by all means, but ensure you return it on leaving the park. Enjoy your walk!

The cache is located on the 4km loop trail so why not do the full walk and pick up the other caches along the way. Allow 2 hours for the walk plus time to find the other caches. Take the camera and shoot the wildlife. Don't forget the drinking water and a snack or two.

Note, This park is closed on fire ban days.
