Geocache Description:

Another one of these mystery Pathfinder caches? Really?

The last one was hard enough to figure out. As a matter of fact, it still hasn’t been figured out at the creation of this one.

Pathfinders-1 GC3KYMK may help shed some torch light on this one to help you solve either just this one or hopefully both. Or it may just make you a little smarter about the pathfinder.

Neither of these caches were placed with a terrain rating over 1.5. The whole point of the mystery puzzle is to figure out the rhyme or reason behind the encoding of the cache coordinates, even learn a little in the process. Then easily find the container.

Pathfinders are paratroopers who are inserted or dropped into place in order to set up and operate drop zones, pickup zones, and helicopter landing sites for airborne operations, air resupply operations, or other air operations in support of the ground unit commander. Pathfinders first appeared in World War II and continue to serve an important role in today's modern military, providing Commanders with the option of flexibly employing air assets.

Early pathfinders were not just paratroopers. The badge was also worn by IX Troop Carrier Command air crews who guided paratrooper transports and towed gliders. It was worn four inches above the left sleeve cuff on the service coat

Requirements for completing the course in addition to showing proficiency in all pathfinder operation, an additional requirement to be awarded the Pathfinder Badge: the candidate Pathfinder must view “a suspended object falling from the sky” (i.e. a door bundle, jumper, heavy equipment, etc.). Failure to meet this requirement will result in the student graduating with a certificate instead of a Pathfinder badge.

Every class of pathfinders, there are two awards given out. One to the student; Col. Robert L. Howard Award is awarded to the Distinguished Honor Graduate (DHG) of the Pathfinder class with the highest overall grade point average with first time "gos" in every event. The second one to the instructor; the students and Instructors vote had the greatest positive impact throughout the course of training.

Not too many candidates make it thru the U S Army Pathfinder course. Classes average between 41.7% and 58.4% of each class successfully make it to graduation day.

The end of the course, new pathfinders are awarded their badges which symbolize flight and airborne capabilities, while the torch represents leadership and guidance. The torch traces back to the Olympians who carried the torch each year of the event to its location. US Army Pathfinders traditionally were the first to arrive ahead of larger elements in order to scout and designate areas in which aviation assets could perform their operations during combat.

Elements of the pathfinder community have been instrumental in such famous military operations such as Operation Market Garden, Operation Overload, Operation Varsity, Operation Agricola, Operation Palliser, Operation Essential Harves, Operation Veritas, and Operation Telic to name a few.

Remember, the pathfinder has been around since WWII and since then have been constantly put into combat well forward of friendly lines.

Are you wondering why I chose this location for pathfinder 2? When you get to the cache site and if you are observant, you will be able to see the sign.

Note: If you have figured out pathfinder-1, the same base method will work here with a slight twist. Also, your computer will help you more than you smart phone in solving this mystery.

I wonder who will be FTF? Fanasfreaks, Spanky2000, and the littlestfreak blazed the trail to this cache as the Ftf.
