Geocache Description:

This lifeboat is one of the few surviving items from the Russian Cruise Liner Mikhail Lermontov, which lies on her side in 33 metres of water in the outer Marlborough Sounds, after she sank on 16 February 1986. There were 743 survivers rescued by two passing ships. Unfortunatly one crew member lost his life

One of the four sister ships built for the European market, the Mikhail Lermontov was a twin screw motorship, 155 metres long just over 20,000 tons with a cruising speed of 20 knots, was completed in 1972.
