Geocache Description:

This cache is at about 6000ft elevation. It will be more difficult to find in the winter.

The geocoin challenge is over, but the cache remains!
This cache was part of a series known as the 2012 Clackamas County Historical Society (CCHS) GEO-Heritage Tour.

Near Historic Timberline Lodge. The lodge was constructed between 1936 and 1937 by WPA workers during the Great Depression.    The entire lodge is made out of local stone and timbers and craftsman made the wrought iron, the furniture and did all the carving at the lodge.  There is a small museum that outlines the history of the lodge plus a wonderful movie which captures vividly how the lodge was created. The museum  houses a permanent, catalogued exhibition of American design, painting, and craft work of the 1930s, created under extraordinary circumstances for a special purpose: to furnish and decorate a mountain lodge for skiers, hikers, and nature lovers.

Exhibits include historical buildings, sites, and structures; living history; local history and heritage; sports; and textiles and fashion. The exhibits are maintained by Friends of Timberline, a nonprofit group dedicated to maintaining the cultural heritage of Timberline Lodge.

It is a National Historic Landmark. The exterior was used in the movie "The Shining". (visit link)
