A micro hidden near the trailhead of the Caddo Bend Trail at Lake Ouachita State Park. It has park permit # GP 28-12-01 *****************PLEASE! INITIALS ONLY!!!********************
The Caddo Bend Trail is a 4 1/2 mile trail at Lake Ouachita State Park that will take about 3 hours to hike. It can be done much faster, but I'm not sure why you would. It is a beautiful, scenic area and you should take your time and enjoy! This cache replaces Flannelman's "Foot Traffic Only" cache which was archived after the April 25, 2011 tornado.
I was recently contacted by my good friend Susan Adkins about the opportunity to replace the caches on the Caddo Bend trail that had been archived due to the trail's temporary closure. Of course I jumped at the chance, as I have wanted to place some caches here for a while now, but the park was already pretty well saturated with cache placements.
On the evening of April 25, 2011, an EF3 tornado struck this park, causing severe damage to the trees and power lines in the area. As you walk along the trail, you will notice that with one notable exception, the bulk of the damage is on the south side of the penninsula, indicating a classic southwest to northeast pattern of travel. At a certain point, you can see where it went across the lake and continued its path through the national forest toward Hot Springs Village and Mountain Valley, where it caused severe damge to many homes, businesses and a large church. Unfortunately, a person died in the storm there as well.
The staff at LOSP has been working tirelessly to repair the damage and get the trail back open. They have done most all that can be done by human power, and now it is up to time to heal the scars from this storm.
This one had to be moved from its old location, due to the fact that the tree it had been hidden in was destroyed by the storm. I hope you like the new location, and enjoy the find! Happy Caching!
