Wave to the Boaters Traditional Cache
QuartzCachers: Tired of donating ammo cans to thieves. I really wanted to keep one at this spot, but it just isn’t feasible to keep a regular sized cache here.

An ammo can hidden in Lake Ouachita State Park. Park permit # GP 28-12-02.
This is an ammo can hidden near the overlook on the Caddo Bend trail in LOSP. Its predecessor was called "Caddo Bend" and was one of the older caches I have found. It was placed in March, 2002, and was one of the first 50 or so caches that I found. It too was archived after the tornado of April 25, 2011. This is the original ammo can plus a little paint, a new logbook, and some new swag. It is hidden very close to its original location, but I updated the coordinates a bit in this difficult to get GPS signal area. I hope they get you close enough for the find.
As with all woods caches in Arkansas, please be extra careful to watch for snakes, spiders, ticks, chiggers, scorpions etc. They are abundant here, along with many types of thorns and trifoliate. When I hid this cache, I spotted a tarantula nearby, so I would be poking around with a stick before I stuck my hands somewhere I couldn't see.
Just for kicks and giggles, I include the original cache description here:
The Caddo Bend Trail is a 4 ¼ mile trail that runs a 2-mile peninsula at Lake Ouachita State Park. You can move fairly quickly along the south side of the trail with open vegetation. But, as you cross to the north side vegetation becomes denser and the trail seems longer. You should plan to spend 3 hours to hike this trail. The Caddo Indians were farmers who grew squash, corn and beans in the southern part of the state. The Ouachita Mountains was an area for them to hunt and gather wild game. The first mention of the Indians was by the Hernando DeSoto expedition in 1542. The trail is named after this tribe. Please check in at the Visitor Center for trail maps and additional information on this area.
I hope you enjoy this cache, this trail, and this park. Happy Caching!
