Once part of the neighbouring suburb of Quakers Hill, the western Sydney suburb of Marayong would be officially named following the extension of a railway line from Blacktown to Richmond through the area in 1922.

Part of the lands traditionally home to the Dharug Aboriginal people, Marayong takes its name from the Dharug word for 'emu'.

Cache is located nearby an old rail siding, now disused.
