The listed coordinates are bogus!
The cache is NOT in the middle of the ocean!
This cache is part of a series of Doctor Who caches - placed because Doctor Who is the best TV show ever!
The cache locations have been chosen because they are great places to visit and they correspond to something in the Doctor Who episode. Originally, there were 9 caches in the series. At 8 of the caches you collected a clue that helped lead you to the final cache in the series. This cache contained Clue #8. However, since 5 of the caches in the series - including the final cache - have been archived, there is no longer a puzzle to be solved.
Free parking is available at North Fort, which can be accessed from North Head Scenic Drive. Alternately, this walk and cache can be done as a short diversion off the Gunner's Walk where you can find the four caches in our North Head series!
You may also want to consider taking one of the guided tours through the WWII tunnels, gun emplacements and more at North Fort. These tours are available every Sunday for a minimal cost. Check the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust web site for more details.
The Sontaran Stratagem Synopsis (Doctor Who Series 4, Episode 4)
When fifty-two people across the world in eleven different time zones die at the same time with ATMOS in their vehicles, Martha Jones, now a UNIT doctor, summons the Doctor back to modern-day Earth to help figure out why. But an old enemy lies in wait - the war loving Sontarans!
The Sontarans
The Sontarans are a race of humanoids with a stocky build, greenish brown skin, and a distinctive dome-shaped head. In addition, they only have three fingers on each hand. Their special muscles are designed for load-bearing rather than leverage because of the significant amount of gravity on their home planet of Sontar. Ross Jenkins in The Sontaran Stratagem describes a Sontaran as resembling "a talking baked potato" but The Doctor sticks up for the Sontarans by saying that, to them, he looks like a pink weasel. Sontarans come from a large, dense planet named Sontar in the "southern spiral arm of the galaxy" which has a very strong gravitational field, which explains their compact stocky form. They also are far stronger than humans and in the recent series are smaller.
Sontarans care about nothing but war. They have been fighting their deadly, the Rutans, for 50,000 years, and there's no end in sight. Their every action servses to further their cause, whether it is searching for a strategically advantageous position or increasing the number of Sontaran warriors to take part in the conflict. Combat is glorious for Sontarans and to die heroically in battle is their ultimate goal.
Cache Information
The Sontaran Stratagem is a mystery cache located near Australia's Memorial Walk at North Fort at North Head, Manly.
The cache is a (large) micro sized container that contains a TB and a one dollar coin for the FTF. There isn't much room in the cache container. Small geocoins might fit, but it's a bit of a squeeze for TB tags, and there's definitely no room for swag. Geocoins should be put in sealed plastic bags, as dampness might become a problem. Please bring your own writing utensil!
This cache is NOT at the published coordinates! You must solve the puzzle to determine the location from which the Sontarans plan to launch their attack on the cache. To determine the distance and direction of their projectile, you will have to find some additional information that can be found along Australia's Memorial Walk.
IMPORTANT
- Near GZ, there is a small white pipe. This is NOT the cache. Please do not try and disassemble it.
- Bring your own writing utensil.
- Don't forget to write down the clue!
- Please replace the cache exactly as you found it.
- No spoilers please!

About Australia's Memorial Walk
(copied from the Royal Australian Artillery Historical Company web site.)
The Australian Memorial Walk honours those who have served and supported the defence of Australia in peace or in war. The paved pathway links five monuments erected to remember the major conflict periods in Australia’s history:
Colonial,
World War I,
World War II,
Post World War II, and
Peace Keeping.
(A special Gallipoli monument also stands along the pathway).
Funding for the construction commenced with a grant from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs with the majority of funds being donated from the public and organisations whose contributions are recognized with an engraved paver containing words of their choosing.
This pathway was built along an old track that ran through the bush at North Head. Overlooking Sydney Harbour and at the Heads through which many servicemen and women sailed off to and returned from war. It is an idyllic site for a memorial that commemorates those who have served the Nation. The Monuments have been designed to provide the visitor with information on the period of service commemorated and allows a chance to rest, reflect and to remember.
Volunteers have undertaken the majority of the work and that work could not have been done without the generous support of the public and various organisations. More work is required and we continue to seek assistance from the public and organisations so that we can complete the work commenced in 1999. To date 4000 engraved pavers and 63 Centrepiece Pavers have been donated and space is filling quickly.
For a tax deductible donation of $70 your personally inscribed paver will become part of this historic walkway, ensuring future generations are forever reminded of those who supported the defence of this great land of ours. Subsequent pavers in the same order attract a discount (see order form below). Corporations, clubs, business and community groups are also encouraged to donate a $1500 Centrepiece paver inscribed with your logo and message. Individual pavers associated with a Centrepiece attract a discount.
The site is open to visitors seven days a week.
For further information regarding donating pavers to the Memorial Walk, please call 02 9824 9275 or email the Memorial Walk Officer.
Congratulations Baktrak on the FTF! Wonderful work!
