The Loftus Hills Memorial Reserve has been created due to its interesting geological features and is named in honour of Tasmanian geologist, Clive Loftus-Hills. He made a fantastic contribution to Tasmanian geological knowledge and mining. If you would like to read more about him try starting here: http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/loftus-hills-clive-7221
The site is located right on the intersection of the Zeehan Highway and the very scenic short-cut Anthony Main Road between Tullah and Queenstown. There is good parking across the road on the side of the highway. At the Southern end of the car-park is a boulder with an information plaque attached. Read this then carefully cross the road and access the site proper via the steps provided. More boulders and information plaques are to be viewed as you follow the track around through the scrub. After just a few minutes you'll come to the 'upper' boulder and if you walk around this you will see the track continuing. Follow this track for a few metres ignoring your GPS which will be telling you to scrub-bash through cutting grass (not recommended). You will soon see an easy access opening onto a much more open area which is actually a glacial moraine. Once there follow your GPS the final few metres to GZ.
When replacing the small Systema container make sure it is well hidden from the eyes of meandering geology students who frequent this site.
