Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series based around the Fife Stop Line, a second world war ani-invasion defensive structure built in 1940/41,see cache GC11H67 for more details.

In 1941 the British government sent every available piece of earth moving equipment in Central Scotland to the Howe of Fife to dig an enormous pair of anti-tank trenches. The images below are a 1942 aerial photo of the Ladybank area and the modern map of the same area, to which the east trench route has been added in green.

The trenches were "V" shaped, approximately 30 feet deep and zig-zagged across the countryside for miles. This cache is placed at the point where the east trench intersected with the Ladybank-Pitlessie road although nothing now remains there to be seen on the ground, if you look north towards the railway you will see a hexagonal bunker.

At the bunker location itself, which is where the trench met the railway line, you can see an anti tank rail block.

On the north side of the railway line, in the woods, the east trench still exists, although a shadow of it's former self.
