A deux pas de la cathédrale d'Amiens, trône cette incroyable horloge.
Son histoire est mouvementée, c'est l'ancien maire d'Amiens Louis Dewailly qui en 1892 avait légué 25.000 francs à la commune pour qu'elle édifie une horloge permettant aux Amiénois de ne pas rater leur train.
La conception de cette horloge fut confiée à l’architecte Émile Riquier et Albert Roze, sculpteur. Le corps est formé d'une flèche de style rococo surmontée d'une horloge à trois faces éclairées au gaz (par la suite, l'électricité remplacera le gaz).
Marie sans Chemise trôna toute la première moitié du XXème siècle place Gambetta à une centaine de mètres de là. Elle résista à l’invasion, aux bombardements et aux ravages de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
En 1949, à la reconstruction de la ville, l’horloge sera démontée et abandonné aux ferrailleurs. Seule la statue fût sauvegardée et protégée.
Et ce n’est que sous le mandat de l’ancien maire Gilles de Robien, pour inaugurer le 1er janvier 2000 que la colonne Dewailly fût reconstruite et que Marie Sans Chemise retrouva sa place sur le socle de l'horloge.
