Geocache Description:

This cache is located on Frosty Mountain in E. C. Manning Provincial Park. The best time to go is from July to September because snow can make this location very dangerous to access. During the summer this cache should be readily accessible to most reasonably fit individuals, no special equipment necessary. Near the top, the route is exposed, thus care should be taken in stormy weather and at the start and end of the summer season.

Frosty Mountain is comprised of 2 summits. The first one (East, Elev 2403 m) is easily accessible and the second one (West, Elev 2423 m) is not safely accessible by most hikers.

Distance: 22.2 km from Lightning Lake to summit and return.

Elevation Change: 1150 m from Lightning Lake to summit.

Access: The best access is from the Lightning Lakes Day Use parking lot. Follow the trail to the east end of the lake over a bridge and dam. Take the left trail that starts to climb up a small scree slope. At the 7km mark you will pass through the Frosty Creek Wilderness campsite. A small creek runs through the campsite; when moving on be sure to fill your water bottles here. From Frosty Creek another .5 km or 30 minutes of steep trail leads to the Larch grove. The forest opens slightly during this ascent to expose a scree slope. The views from here up are spectacular. Half a kilometre into the Larch grove, the grade of the trail lessens. At approximately 10 km, both peaks of Frosty Mountain loom ahead. The Larch forest suddenly ends, and a much more austere habitat begins. 1.5 km of steep switchbacks lead to the ridge and to the junction with the Windy Joe side of the trail. Those with overnight packs may prefer to leave most of their gear at the junction before ascending the last .6 km along the ridge to the summit.
