Geocache Description:

This church  was built in 1832, and is currently still in use.  Look around, but please be respectful.   An old cemetery is in back.  More parking is across street at the beach access parking, with bathrooms.

This church was built in 1832 for the surrounding farmers that grew crops in this fertile area, with a dense forest above.   Over the years, the trees in the forest were cut down to make way for cattle ranching and building homes, changing the weather patterns and turning the area from fertile to dry with parched soil.   Over the coming years most people moved away because it became difficult to grow things.
The church has been refurbished and rebuilt, and is committed to maintain Hawaiian culture, including language, dance and traditions.
In the cemetery in back, the ancient remains of a woman found buried in a canoe were interred after being found at the building site of the Grand Wailea.
