Geocache Description:

SLO

EN
In 1916 soldiers of the 3rd Austro-Hungarian mountain brigade built memorial church designed by the Viennese architect Remigius Geyling. Secretly and for a long period of time they had been selecting church location that would be invisible to the enemy and positioned the same distance from the battlefields at Vodil vrh, Mrzli vrh, Sleme and Rdeči rob. The church was built in the period from March to November. Its exterior portrays the stylized crests of the kingdoms and provinces of Austria-Hungary. Interior is brightly colored and decorated in the Vienna Secession style. Oak plaques bear the names of the Austro-Hungarian soldiers that fell at battles in the area.
The church was declared a cultural and historical monument.

Access is possible by car from Tolmin, passing Zatolmin to the valley Polog (distance 12 km). From there it is 30 min of walking to the church on Javorca.
