On the (short) walk to this cache you are treated to the 'classic' view of the magnificent mountains of Suilven and Canisp... Weather permitting!
We got a new puppy and named him... GEO!
So, to welcome him to the 'Torbreck Ticklers' we had to give him his own cache. As he is a real water-lover and loves a good picnic we decided that this was the perfect spot!
Please note that due to trees and foliage your GPS may struggle a bit to get you the exact co-ordinates in the summer, but with the help of the clue you shouldn't find it it too difficult to be in the right place.
The walk to the cache is down and along an easy track, also suitable for mountain bikers of all abilities.
The track crosses over a small bridge unsuitable for vehicles. Parking for all vehicles is at the coordinates for parking provided! Please respect the 'No vehicles beyond this point' sign!
Unfortunately there is no path to go all the way around this beautiful loch and to complete the circuit, a high 'deer fence' needs to be scaled, not a good idea! The track continues past the cache for approx 1km to the abandoned keepers cottange called 'Cnocnaneach' - 'Hill of the Horse' and by the time you have slogged up there you know why!
Fishing on Glencanisp Loch is by permit only through Assynt Angling Club, boat only, no bank fishing permitted. Well worth it too, with a good chance of a few decent wild Brown Trout and even the possibility of a Salmon or Sea Trout later in the season!
The loch is safe for dogs and children but keep an eye on them all the same. A great place for an picnic indeed!
As always CACHE IN - TRASH OUT!!!
