The Tintah Public School is memorialized by the monument at the site. The geocache is hidden near the monument with permission granted to do so. Depending on the amount of snow, this geocache may or may not be winter friendly since the cache is at ground level.
The Tintah Public School building was built on this site in 1909. Several additions and improvements were done to the school building over the years. In 1923 the school building was wired for electricity and the first playground equipment, a swing, was built and a slide added in 1926 and in 1929 a merry-go-round. These playground equipment have since been moved and some are now located at the city park.
A reorganization of school districts in 1953 brought more students into the Tintah School due to the closing of many one-room schoolhouses in the area. To make room for the incoming students from the country schools, it was necessary to add more classrooms and offices in 1955.
Consolidation with the Campbell school district was approved in 1972. The terms of consolidation used the Tintah school building as the C-T Elementary and the Campbell school building as the C-T High School, with students being bussed between. This arrangement continued until May 10, 1982. A tornado striking Tintah that day left the Tintah school building structurally unsafe. Classes were resumed in temporary facilities in Campbell until new facilities could be built adjoining the C-T High School. The Tintah school building was sold, never again to be used as an educational facility. The monument at this location was built from bricks and stone from the school building. The container you are looking for blends in with its surroundings.
