We are very pleased to introduce you to Portland's newest reclaimation of riverfront property open to public use. Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, "The Brownstone Quorum," this historic tract has been preserved and enhanced in a way sure to please human visitors and the abundant natural wildlife.
While still a work in progress, the park now offers grassy fields, a beautiful new pavillion, an amphitheater-styled stage and a labyrinth of mostly unmarked trails. It also shares parking with The Brownstone Exploration and Discovery Park, one of the most unusual and extreme water parks in the U.S., so consider packing a suit.
The property is historic because it consists of what was once was just a tidal flat along the Ct.River. The quarrying of brownstone changed that. This where a narrow gage railroad carried the tailings and reject stone to be dumped. This byproduct was called "slag" and it transformed this area from a tidal flat to what it is today with the help of mother nature, an elevated river overlook. You are seeking a container measuring approximately the size of a paperback novel somewhere between "War and Peace" and "Nancy Drew", disguised in a not-so-everday fashion. The area is prone to uncontrolled growth, some of which is three-leaved, so use caution. Please do not remove any stones because that is strictly forbidden per town and park rules.
Dogs are w3elcome and there is currently no leash law. Have fun! When you're done, take some time to explore the area because this is just a warm-up.
