Hello, I am Professor Gustov. You may know me as being the official mascot of GHAGAFAP which is Canada's longest running annual event. Welcome to another one of my classes on geocache puzzle solving and more. Within my class you will learn some very valuable puzzle solving skills. As always I will present you with a puzzle that you may find to be part of an Unknown geocache type. I will work with you to help guide you in solving the puzzle so that at the end of this session you will have all the information needed to obtain the coordinates of the geocache.

You must resist the urge! But the companies will say that resistance is futile. They might come in handy at times but we have lived without them for years. April 3rd of this year marked the 40th anniversary of the first one to be used.

[Lesson in Solving]
If you know what the objects with the 3 coloured rings are then you are on your way to solving this one. The stuff in the Fluff Stuff section has nothing to do with the cache except for maybe these might use these objects in the puzzle, or maybe they did a long time ago. The title of the cache is a clue as to what these objects are and what you need to concentrate on. The hint on the cache page also tells you what these objects are but since it's a hint, you shouldn't look at it unless you get stuck. Search the internet for the objects followed by the word "chart" and you should have the information necessary to solve this puzzle. Any other images on the puzzle image are not necessary to solving the puzzle, but are related in some way to what is mentioned in the Fluff Stuff section.
Also if you look at the five objects you will see 15 coloured rings, which is generally how many numbers there are in a set of coordinates. Or many times people use only 14 numbers instead of 15 especially in our time zone as the additional number is irrelevant.
Also if I tell you the cache is a drive by on Auburn Rd, then you wouldn't even need to solve the puzzle and could just brute force the coords by looking at the 15 coloured rings that are used. However I will save that for another lesson on how to brute force coords and cache locations.

[Gustov's Geocaching Tip]
Many times people think that caches get wet inside because of a poor choice of container, however this is not the case in most instances. Popular containers are ammo cans and lock and lock or similar food storage containers. These containers were designed to be air tight. However we often see water in them or damp contents and log. One possible problem why these contents get wet is because these containers are over filled and don't close properly and also if the log book is put into a ziplock bag, then many times when people close up the container, part of the bag is sticking out and hence the container does not make a good seal which allows water to get in. What no one has examined yet and is probably the major reason for contents getting wet is that people cache in all types of weather including rain. When it is raining out and the container is opened and signed, most times the rain drops will get onto the log and into the contents of the cache. This moisture is then trapped inside the container and causes the contents to become damp where soon everything inside will be musty and ruined. If you do plan on caching in the rain take precautions when signing the log so that no water, not even a drop gets onto the log or into the container. |
