Geocache Description:

CENTENNIAL TRAIL SERIES

Photobucket

This series of 29 caches are located along a remaining section of the Centennial Trail that leads to Chadsey Lake and eastward on Sumas Mountain in the regional park. Most of the Centennial Trail has disappeared due to lack of use and maintenance or development. The newer Trans Canada Trail has incorporated parts of the CT and these sections are now known as the TCT. We have seen the old CT signs out Chilliwack Road way on our caching adventures and know this trail passes by Lindeman and Greendrop Lakes. You will see some of the signs along this trail and the lake.

THE TRAIL:
The easiest way to accomplish this series in one day is to do it in reverse. Park one car at the second gate up Sumas Mountain in the Regional Park accessed via Batt Road and park a second car on Upper Sumas Road at the parking waypoint. From the second gate go up the road and you can take the closest trail to the lake by way of the Chadsey Lake Series - "Lost" #1 or if you want to do the caches in Challenge Alley or the Knob Gobbler series, then walk further up the road to the Viewpoint Trail and follow it down. Watch for the junction to the CT (see additional waypoint). Head for caches #16 - #29. This section east of the lake is predominately gradual downhill, little used, rough, overgrown and steep in a few places, and an easy walk along a wide old road in other places. It will also give you a few nice viewpoints along the way. #29 is the turnaround point and then stay on the CT all the way to #1 and out to your second car. To the west of the lake, caches #15-#1 are approximately a 1500 foot elevation walk downhill if done in that order.
The series could also be broken into two hikes doing the east side and west side separately. Another alternative for a good workout is to park on Upper Sumas Road and hike mostly uphill all the way to the end of the series and back to your car.
Most of the trail has orange markers and we placed lots of pink tape to help keep you on the trail. It is advisable to turn on the tracking feature in your gps.

The additional waypoints have been added only to cache pages #1 and #29.

PARK GATES LOCKED:

9:00 PM - 7:00 AM - MAY 1 - SEP 30
6:00 PM - 7:00 AM - OCT 1 - APR 30

THE CACHES:
These caches are meant to be found so we have placed pink flagging tape close to most hides. The majority of containers are preform tubes placed to be winter accessable and a few small containers as well. These are small log sheets so we would appreciate it if you would just use initials on one line. If you are in a group ... come up with a team name to save space. Thanks!

PRECAUTIONS:
This is an intermediate hike of measurable distance and difficulty and we advise not doing it alone. Also keep in mind you are in the wilderness and there could be animals. Be prepared and alert. Bring plenty of water, snacks, batteries and a flashlight just in case.

Special thanks to our friend t@bbywmn for coming with and helping us hide this series!
