NOTE: Park hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Caretaker who lives on site requests no caching after hours.
Placed original park cache in honor of my son's 13th birthday. He's now 16 and driving. (Guess that's reason to celebrate.)
This is a pretty typical woodland cache. You will be able to drive very close, but some easy walking is required. Even with springtime growth this is easy to get to.
Records of the Pulaski County School System show land for the “old” White Lily School dates to a September 2, 1867, deed. The county’s 132 schools were placed into four educational divisions in 1918. White Lily was listed as School #17 in Division 4 (Cedar Grove) with a census of about 45 students. One teacher that year earned a salary of $42 per month.
Residents of this eastern Pulaski County community were brought to tears when the board of education voted to close White Lily School in the early 1990s. Students now had to be bused to Shopville Elementary.
A group of citizens decided if they couldn’t have a school, they wanted the facilities for a community park. Many invested their time and money to improve the facility after the school board agreed to a long-term lease to the county government. The first meeting of the community took place in August 1999.
Today many events are held at the park, which features a gymnasium, library and computer lab inside the building. The exterior grounds include a basketball court, baseball field, amphitheater, playground, small and large picnic shelter, sand volleyball court, an old nature trail and, most recently, a paved walking trail.
