Geocache Description:

A lighthouse built almost 200 years ago.. and a keeper with two hook hands.. are you brave enough to grab the cache from Captain Hook's Lighthouse? Please read the full description below before retrieving this geocache!

Captain Wiley Gilbert Nickles, born in 1802, was the first lighthouse keeper here at the Stoney Point Lighthouse. His story was quite interesting, however. It seems ol' Wiley had a little too much fun during a Fourth of July celebration in Sackets Harbor one night and lost his hands and forearms to cannon fire. They fixed up ol' Wiley though.. fastening hooks to the ends of his arms. This allowed him to feed himself with his left arm and use a pen with his right. He was the keeper here for almost 30 years, until he mysteriously disappeared one night after refilling the oil lamps. The authorities at the time never could find ol' Wiley's body, but maybe you'll have better luck while looking for this cache..

The geocache is NOT located on the lighthouse property. It is now privately owned, so please obey the posted signs. This should be a fairly quick park & grab. You're looking for a magnetic micro container. Please bring your own pen/pencil to sign with.

Feel free to post pictures with this unique cache container! I'd love to see them.
