A NASCENTE Do RIO MIRA

Aqui nasce o rio Mira. É um rio alentejano que nasce na Serra do Caldeirão ou Mú no local exato que mostra a foto acima à esquerda, a uma altitude de 470 m, e percorre cerca de 145 km até desaguar no oceano Atlântico junto a Vila Nova de Mil-fontes. É dos poucos rios da Europa que corre de sul para norte, tal como o rio Sado.

Repare que não encontrará água no local a não ser que esteja a chover, neste caso a nascente não é mais do que onde são coletadas as primeiras águas por escoamento superficial.

Os moinhos são bastante impressionantes e fazem um barulho engraçado principalmente debaixo deles.

Here is born the Mira. It is an alentejano river which rises in the Serra do Caldeirão or Mú where the above left foto shows, at an altitude of 470 m, and travels about 145 km to empty into the Atlantic Ocean near Vila Nova de Milfontes. It is one of the few rivers in Europe that flows from south to north like the river Sado.

Note that you will not find water on the local unless it is raining, in this case the source is no more than where the first waters are collected by superficial flow.

The aeolian mills are quite impressive and they make an funny noise mainly if you stand under one of them.
