Youbou
Youbou, pronounced You-bow, is the second largest community on Cowichan Lake and has been a mill town since the Empire Logging Company established a mill there in 1913. Youbou was named for the the mill's general manager Mr. C.C. Yount and president Mr. Bouton, and the mill has been operating on and off since then. This was the last mill on Cowichan Lake, but it was shut-down in 2001 by Timberwest. The closure marked the end of an era for lumber production in the region. Youbou was established enough to live on, and is currently a home for loggers and a base for many outdoor recreation activities.
