Nice easy cache and dash in the village of Boreham. The housing estate was built on the site of a Chicken Factory which was a thriving business in the village in 1960's to late 1980's.
I grew up in the village and walked past the factory every day to get the bus to school. The factory always rather intrigued me as a child, although the smell was pretty bad, especially on a hot day. Sometimes the front doors were left open and you could see the chickens hanging up by their feet waiting to be finished off - a chilling sight. Every day lorries came and went bringing in the battery hens which you could hear clucking away, hopefully unaware of where they were going. A few times we rescued chickens who had escaped the lorry and tried to look after them, but they had been used to a battery life and did not adapt well to country living. Thankfully welfare standards have improved and more people are aware of the benefits of free range. The factory did employ around 200 people in its heyday, many from the village, who had to go further afield after the factory's closure. The original cache contains lots of chicken swaps, and it would be good to keep the theme if possible.
Happy Caching!
