Dr. W. S. Catterson was one of the founders of a new town of Pueblo in 1860 after the discovery of gold in the Colorado mountains lured many more people to the area. He built a cabin on Second Street near Santa Fe and was the first doctor to settle in the new town. In 1874 he died in Kansas City from an overdose of medicine, presumed to be morphine.
