Geocache Description:

This cache can be reached from the main Lodato trail or with a little more difficulty from dabased’s Backside Lodato series.  Iron Man or Woman Cachers will get all 14 in one day; seven by dbased, three by peigimccann, two by ynots (including her Scotts Valley History puzzle cache), one by CacheCreek, and Team Crush’s Echo Lodato, the oldest cache in Scotts Valley hidden on April 10, 2001!

A large cache just chucky jam full of good swag: travelbugs, cache containers, toys, all that your little caching heart desires.  Cache is not in the obvious place (which appears to be where someone has stashed their used beer can collection). Please shut the lid tightly and hide accordingly.  I have also put enough banana slug postcards in the cache for everyone to grab at least one whether you are trading or not.

So there I was just starting up the main Lodato loop trail when along comes dbased and samiejo who were on their way down from Meridies Lodato.

After a bit of chat dbased says he has found a new spot for a cache.
Oh no, I say, I have a cache in my backpack, where were you planning to place yours?
Half way between Backside Lodato 5 and Meridies Lodato, he says.
Oh no, I say, that’s the exact spot I’m heading for!

Now being the gentleman cacher dbased is - despite his having won the P.O. Cache of the Year Award today (see Backside Lodato 5) - and with samiejo in agreement, they insisted that I place mine in our mutually chosen spot, and on they went down the trail.

And on I went up the trail, slowly and trudgingly.  When you find the cache you’ll see why I was trudging.  I swear the thing weighs 50 pounds.  Whoever decided to put the three painted rocks in it needs to have their head examined (oh, wait a minute, that was me!).

A bit about Lodato.  This is as one cacher put it, Scotts Valley's Best Park.  The main hike is a perfect loop hike, 1.3 miles in length with a 300 foot gain in elevation up and back down (500 feet if you're going to dbased's Backside Lodato 5).

..

Lodato changes with the seasons displaying chaparral and redwood forest, wildflowers in the spring and summer and wonderful fungi, mosses and liverworts in the autumn and winter.
