Vor vielen, vielen Jahren, herrschten die Römer auf dem Gebiet des heutigen Luxemburg. Nach dem Motto „Alle Wege führen nach Rom“ waren die Römer eifrig dabei viele Tausend Kilometer Strassen zu bauen, so auch die Römerstrassen Reims-Arlon-Trier, die sich damals auf dem Fischmarkt in Luxemburg getroffen haben.

Die Römer waren eher ein praktisch veranlagtes Volk und keine Mathematiker. Für die Konstruktion der Römerstrassen in Luxemburg holte sich Cäsar damals den berühmten Mathematiker, Ingenieur und Techniker Heron aus Alexandria zu Hilfe.

Als Dank für seine Arbeit schenkte Cäsar ihm ein Stückchen Land neben dem heutigen Bourglinster, direkt neben der Römerstrasse von Trier nach Reims. Das Stück Land musste das exakt die Form eines gleichseitigen Dreiecks haben.


Cäsar hatte bereits drei Grenzsteine setzen lassen, durch die jeweils eine Grenze des Grundstückes verlaufen soll. Die Koordinaten dieser Grenzsteine entsprechen den Final Koordinaten der Caches:

Heron, der Spezialist für Dreiecke, war sehr schlau und hat sich die Eckpunkte seines Grundstückes so berechnet, dass die umschlossenen Fläche dieses gleichseitigen Dreiecks maximal war.

Kurz vor seinem Tod begrub Heron seine gesammelten Schätze an der westlichen Spitze seines Grundstücks.

Many, many years ago, the Romans ruled the area where today is Luxembourg. Following the motto "All roads lead to Rome" the Romans were busy building thousands of kilometers of roads, including the roads Reims-Arlon-Trier, which met at the „fish market“ in Luxembourg city. The Romans were more practical people than mathematicians. For the construction of Roman roads in Luxembourg, Caesar asked the famous mathematician and engineer Heron of Alexandria for help.


In appreciation of his work, Caesar gave him a piece of land next to todays Bourglinster, just beside the Roman road from Trier to Reims. The land must have the exact shape of an equilateral triangle.

Caesar had already set three landmarks, each on a different borderline of the property. The coordinates of these landmarks correspond to the final coordinates of the caches:

Heron, the specialist for triangles, was very smart and has calculated the corner points in such a way that the enclosed area of the equilateral triangle was maximal.

Shortly before his death, Heron buried his collected treasures at the western corner of his property.
