A series of caches set on a gentle walk through some of the most beautiful and peaceful woodland around Mount Eagle on the Black Isle with stunning views all around, fabulous flora and fauna, not forgetting a gigantic TV aerial and of course a few caches to make it even better!
This cache has been placed for the "Wood you believe it? Midsummer on the Black Isle event" on 23 June 2012. Please do not search for it before this date. Special thanks to the Forestry Commission Scotland for permission to place these caches.
This is a working forest and from time to time, felling or other activities may prevent access to this cache. If operations are taking place at the time of your visit, please do not attempt to access the cache and kindly post a Note to let us know that the cache should be temporarily disabled. Thank you.
Whether you chose to find all of these caches in one go or save a few for another day, they are all hidden just off the main path which is well made in most places. There are a couple of sections which can become muddy/ boggy after wet weather but should still be ok to walk, push a buggy, cycle or ride a horse. Part of this caching route follows a sign posted cycle trail, 10 miles to Learnie and 16 miles to Cromarty.
Some of the caches use standard containers and others might be a little bit different! You will need tweezers to extract the log sheets from some of them so be prepared. Also please ensure they are covered up well again and hidden from muggles.
Please note that there is NO vehicular access allowed through these woods, there is a very small car park near the big aerial, please park sensibly and do not block gateways. Please do not spoil this cache for others by adding spoiler pictures, many thanks.
From Olympic Event Cache you can turn and go up the hill towards the transmitting station complex and fire tower. There is a small uneven track through the trees at the back of the buildings which you take to get to this cache, this track also continues on to the trig point. There was a cuckoo extremely close to where this cache is placed, sadly we couldn't see it amongst the trees but it's the closest we've even been to a cuckoo. Wonderful views towards Ben Wyvis from this cache site which is almost at the highest point on the Black Isle. It is not possible to cycle or push a buggy to this cache, the best way is on foot, you could leave your bikes at the complex as the cache is only a minute's walk further on. After visiting this cache retrace your steps back down to the main path near Olympic Event cache. Please do not spoil this cache for others by adding spoiler pictures, many thanks.
