Geocache Description:

A simple two-stage multicache. The co-ordinates listed lead you to a bench where you will need to sit to solve the clues below to get the co-ordinates for the main cache. Parking is available in the layby or car park between the village and the layby.

This cache has been placed in memory of our mother/grandmother who died in 2000 and who loved walking and nature, particularly in the Lakeland hills. Originally we intended the cache to be placed just outside the Warton Crag Nature Reserve, but due to the proximity of other caches this had to be changed.
The cache is a regular clip lock box.The cache is so called because we have many happy memories of sitting on the bench with “Grandma” eating our picnic lunch before climbing Warton Crag, and so used to call the bench “Grandma’s Café”. The Warton Crag Nature Reserve is a limestone outcrop standing above nearby Warton village.  The site has a superb butterfly population, including fritillaries and commas.  Peregrine falcons can frequently be seen flying over the nearby former quarry.  In addition many wild flowers can be seen, particularly in spring, such as orchids, cowslips and bluebells.  Most of the Crag is also a SSSI. The final cache location affords a panoramic view over Morecambe Bay.

Sit on the bench at “Grandma’s Café”, dangling your feet as you eat your picnic looking at the view over Warton village and being thankful that you are not on the M6 visible in the distance, just like “Grandma” used to. Then solve the clues below to find the cache co-ordinates:

1. Count the total number of slats on the bench you are sitting on and add one for luck to get A.

2. Look at the speed signs on both sides of the road. Remove the zeros and add together the other numbers. That number = B.

3. Look at the speed signs and the gradient sign on both sides of the road. Remove the zeros and add together all the other numbers to get C.

4. Count the number of slats on the back of the bench only to get D.

5. Count the number of slats on the seat of the bench only to get E.

The cache can be found at N 54 0(A+1).B(E+1)(A+1) W 002 46.C(E+1)(D-3)
