RemyD: Helaas, het einde van deze cache is daar.
Graag had ik de cache behouden, maar hij bleek toch teveel overlast op te leveren. Ik had natuurlijk nog meer hints kunnen opnemen in de tekst en ik had ook nog ergens een geocaching tekentje op de deurbel kunnen plaatsen...maar ik vraag mij af of dat in alle gevallen had geholpen. Niet iedereen leest de cache omschrijving (zo blijkt).
Aangezien de cache niet bij mijn eigen voordeur hangt, laat ik het hier bij.

This cache needed archiving as my in-laws were driven crazy by people not reading the cache description or not understanding the numerous hints that were listed therein. Since the cache isn't attached to my own house and since I DO appreciate the good relationship I have with my in-laws, this cache is now archived.

Thanks everyone for logging this cache and leaving your thoughts.

Geocache Description:

Een beetje zon op de Nieuwe Rijn en je waant je aan de Middellandse Zee. Iedereen zit relaxed op de stoep te genieten van een drankje en het uitzicht....
 If the sun shines it feels like you’re on the Mediterranean here instead of the Nieuwe Rijn. Everyone sits on the sidewalk while enjoying a drink and the view....

Rondom de cache
Naast vele monumentale panden zie je op dit stukje van de Nieuwe Rijn sporen van het scheepvaartverleden van Leiden. Een paar huizen naast het pand waar de cache zich bevindt, was vroeger de Bossche Veerdienst gevestigd. De andere kant op is een heel karakteristiek pand gelegen waar ooit een depot van de Zuidhollandsche Bierbrouwerij gevestigd was. In het pand bevindt zich nog steeds een oude koeltoren waar in vroege tijden het ijs uit de grachten bewaard werd dat zomers naar de cafés ging. Nog weer verder op ligt een oud kraanschip van de firma Groenewegen, waar het tot ver in de vorige eeuw een komen en gaan was met goederen uit onder meer Amsterdam.

In het pand waar de cache zich bevindt, was destijds P.J. Planjer gevestigd. Een concurrent van de firma Groenewegen, maar de heer Groenewegen kwam hier graag aan om een lekker bakkie koffie te doen en een gezellig praatje te hebben. Ook nu nog is dat gedeelte van het pand als werkruimte in gebruik en wordt er geregeld aan bootjes geklust.
 Around the cache
In addition to many historic buildings you’ll find traces of the shipping history of Leiden at this part of the Nieuwe Rijn. A few houses next to the building where the cache is located, a ferry to Den Bosch was established in the Bossche Veerhuis. If you walk the other way you’ll find a very characteristic building where once a depot of a brewery (Zuidhollandsche Bierbrouwerij) was established. The building still has an old tower where in early 1900’s ice from the canals was kept to be transported to cafes in Summer. Still a bit further on is an old crane ship belonging to the Groenewegen company, where well into the 20th century it was a coming and going of goods from cities like Amsterdam.

At that time P.J. Planjer had his firm in the building where the cache is located. He was a competitor of Groenewegen, still...mr. Groenewegen often came calling here to have a nice cup of coffee and a bit of a chat. That part of the building is still in use as workspace, with quite a lot of DIY on boats going on.

De cache
De cache is een NANO die je niet kan missen. Ook al is-ie vermomd, hij is voor iedereen te zien en zonder enige moeite meteen en in het voorbijgaan te pakken. Je hoeft dus niets te verplaatsen of ergens tussen te zoeken.
Het is zeker niet de eerste die in Nederland op deze manier verstopt is. Die eer komt een CO in Utrecht toe. Ik heb het idee uit The Joy of Geocaching, waarin overigens een aantal zeer interessante verstoptechnieken de revue passeren [zie www.scribd.com]. Ere wie ere toekomt.

LET OP! Deze cache wordt aan het einde van het jaar gearchiveerd. Voor wie graag de cachebehuizing wil hebben: stuur mij een mail en ik zal de behuizing begin volgend jaar onder de liefhebbers verloten.		 The cache
The cache is a NANO that you cannot miss. Even though it's in disguise, it's hidden in plain sight for everyone to see and you can easily grab it when walking past. So you don't need to move anything or search between stuff that's in front of the building.
It is certainly not the first one in the Netherlands to be hidden in this way. You’ll have to go to Utrecht for that. I got the idea for this cache from The Joy of Geocaching by Paul and Dana Gillin [go to www.scribd.com].
