Plaza independencia

En la Plaza de la Independencia de Vigo encontramos un monumento levantado en homenaje a aquellos que lucharon durante la Reconquista. Se trata de una obra en piedra realizada por el escultor Julio González Pola con motivo del primer centenario de la Reconquista de Vigo.
El monumento representa la reconquista de la ciudad por los propios vigueses, escasamente armados. En él observamos al marinero Carolo derribando la puerta de Gamboa con un hacha, una hermosa figura femenina que representa la victoria y en lo alto el militar que recibió la rendición de los franceses.
La obra se realizó en 1909 y, desde entonces, el 28 de marzo de cada año (festivo en la ciudad) se realiza una ofrenda floral a la que asisten las principales autoridades.
Actualmente esta plaza es peatonal. Fue adoquinada y acondicionada, incluyendo un parque infantil. Por su gran dimensión resulta ideal para pasear, descansar o tomar el sol en uno de sus bancos.

In the Plaza de la Independencia de Vigo find a monument erected to honor those who fought during the Reconquest. This is a work in stone by the sculptor Julio González Pola to mark the centenary of the Reconquest of Vigo.
The monument represents the recapture of the city by themselves Vigo, poorly armed. In it we see the sailor Carolo Gamboa knocking door with an ax, a beautiful female figure representing victory and above the military received the surrender of the French.
The work was conducted in 1909 and since then, on 28 March each year (holiday in the city) there is a wreath attended by leading authorities.
Today the square is pedestrianized. It was paved and equipped, including a playground. For its large size is ideal for walking, relaxing or sunbathing on one of its banks.
