As a CAGE team member, we have discussed having more CITO events in the area to keep our parks nice, but we also talked about the need to CITO when caching. This cache was created for that purpose.
Cache In Trash Out (often abbreviated to CITO) is an ongoing environmental initiative created by Groundspeak which encourages Geocachers to clean up areas parks and other areas. This is done in two ways: specific events, traditionally around the time of Earth Day each year, in which groups go around picking up litter and maintaining the landscape and collecting litter whilst finding geocaches.
There used to be a cache near here that most of the logs talked about the trash and broken bottles everywhere, but only one of the logs mentioned picking something up to take with them (and that was because the bottle was cool, not to throw it away). When that cache was archived recently, I decided to create this cache, which is packed with CITO kits, consisting of a plastic bag and a rubber glove. Pick up a bag full of trash and take it with you! Also, let me know if the supply of bags is getting low so that I can re-stock it.
Cache is a large sized container with a couple smaller containers inside to separate Swag from the CITO kits. This cache will also accommodate larger trackables (but sorry, nothing as big as a hoe or a guitar).
FTF prize is a deluxe CITO kit with a large size trash bag and a pair of gloves.
Terrain is listed as 3 due to possibly having to go over a couple downed trees on the trail and going through a dried up creek bed with broken glass and trash in it. Please be careful walking through and picking up any broken glass in the area! While it is great to involve kids in CITO, I would recommend they stay on the main trail which is in sight of GZ. I would hate to have a little one lose their balance and fall onto something dangerous.
While there is a lot of trash right near GZ, there is more near the old cache location as well, about 150' southeast.
When Placing this cache, I brought an extra bag and started this off right by picking up a bag full of trash to take out with me!
Congrats to BIGGBYjedi on the FTCITO!
