Geocache Description:

A small cache close to a grand view above Third Dam.

Each time I hike this part of the trail I think how nice it would be to have someplace to sit down and enjoy the view up canyon. Below you are the gray stripe of the scenic byway and the green waters of Third Dam; above you are the maple-dotted mountainsides and the silver cliffs of the China Wall. In spring Indian Paintbrush provides bright accents of red among the silvery gray sagebrush scattered across the hillside. In autumn the maples splash the valley with fire.

Since there is nowhere to sit, this geocache at least provides an excuse to stop. Be warned: The trails on the ridges are rather confusing. You may wander in counter-intuitive directions before you find the best path.

This cache is part of the series, MountainHobbit's Mathoms, Year 6. Don't know what a mathom is? Check out Chapter 1 in the Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien to find out the reason for this hobbity celebration!
