~The History of Trillium Lake~

Trillium Lake is a lake situated 7.5 miles S-SW of Mount Hood in Oregon. It is formed by a dam at the headwaters of Mud creek, a tributary to the Salmon River. It was created by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife in 1960.
The area which is now a lake was part of the Barlow Rd., a component of the Oregon Trail. A log road crossed the marshes allowed immigrants to pass to Summit Meadow, which was a toll station1866-1870. Trillium is a genus of flowers particularly noticeable in the area.
The lake is a popular lake for fishing, it is stocked with Rainbow trout. Also popular for camping, and photography, it often clearly reflecting Mount Hood. In the winter it is popular for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing
