Joutolampi sijaitsee Metsähallituksen Pilkkeen harrastus- ja opetusympäristö Mottimetsässä. Kätkö sijaitsee Joutolammen vuokratuvan läheisyydessä vanhan hirsikämpän raunioilla. Auton saa parkkiin lähelle. Purkki kuuluu Ounasvaaran Ladun alueelle tekemään geokätköseikkailu-sarjaan (G16), ja on adoptoitu Geocaching.com -kätköksi heidän luvallaan.
