Park Lug #4 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

HeapsFamily: After many years, I am disabling this series, as we are moving away and I will not be able to maintain the caches once we are gone. Containers have now all been collected in - maybe to be used elsewhere!

Geocache Description:

Cache number 4 in a short series of 5 set along the historic Bishops Waltham “Park Lug”.  You are looking for a 35mm film canister.

This is a short but very pleasant walk along a well marked foot path (part of the Pilgrim’s Trail and King’s Way trails). Although the trail is short, the caches are well hidden, and mostly disguised – so this is more of a challenge than our nearby Pondside Perambulation. Most of the caches will require tweezers or a similar log extraction tool.

The trail can be quite popular with muggles, so please make sure you use stealth recovering the hides, and replace them carefully to maintain the challenge for the next finder.

The Park Lug is the remnant of the ancient boundary bank / fence that once surrounded the Deer Park (or “Chase”) associated with the imposing palace which once belonged to the Bishops of Winchester, the ruins of which can still be visited in the village. More of the Lug can be explored to the north-west, and combined with some of the “My Ampshire” series of caches.

Parking is recommended in Station Road near the palace ruins in Bishops Waltham, and then walk along the minor road to the south of Palace House, and up the hill to cross the busy Botley Road (take care!) , and start your quest at Cache #1.
