Geocache Description:

Having done the excellent series of caches along Lade Braes set by Third Generation, it was a shame that the one called ‘Sandbags’ kept getting muggled, and was archived before we got the chance to do it.  So, we have taken the opportunity to place a cache in the gap left, and have aimed to make this one a little more muggle-proof (hopefully).  And possibly a little more challenging to get to.

This cache is called ‘The Far Side’ for two reasons – firstly, it is on the far side of the Lade Braes burn to avoid muggles, and secondly, there may be many Far Side-esque (for those who know the Far Side cartoons) capers trying to get to this cache.  It is well hidden to prevent accidental finds, so please replace camouflage after finding.  You are looking for a regular sized click-lock plastic box, which was initially stocked with the following:
- Toy spanner
- Spoon
- Yo-yo
- Parachute man
- Decorative star
- Play-doh cutter
- 5p, 2p, 1p
- Pen
- Log book and Geocaching note

There are at least three way to get to this cache, that we can see – all should only be tried if you are prepared to take the risk, assess the prevailing conditions and know what you are doing.

a) If it has been dry and the water level is low, then the most direct route is to ford the burn at roughly N56.20.073, W002.48.652 (coordinates recorded in middle of burn) and climb the steep (and very slippery) slope.

b) Go to the bridge at N56.20.028, W002.48.819 to cross the burn, then back track along the far side through the undergrowth.  We have not tried this route, so have no idea how feasible this would turn out to be.

c) A few months ago, a large pine tree fell across the burn at N56.20.060, W002.48.707 making an excellent natural bridge.  Use it whilst it is still there!  After crossing, here you will still need to follow the bank back for a bit.

We tried routes a) and c).  The log ‘bridge’ is the most fun.  Enjoy.  It should be as easy as falling off a log ...
