Geocache Description:

The Country Road Series
In 2011 I traveled this road for the first time. We were going from Sun Peaks to Adams Lake and I was immediately enamored by the beauty of this drive. So, I decided to do a series of caches along here. I hope you have fun finding them and enjoy the countryside. Most caches are designed to be found with a minimum of frustration and the terrain is not difficult to navigate. Watch out for kids playing, dogs running, gophers really running, farm equipment traveling at slower speeds and wildlife on or near the road. At certain times of the year there will be free range cattle on the road too. I have made sure the caches are placed near to a pull out for your vehicle. So please, pack a lunch, load up the kids, the dog, sun screen, bug spray, sun hats, slow down and enjoy The Country Road Series.

Cattle Guard
A cattle guard is a series of parallel metal bars installed in a roadway over a ditch to prevent livestock from escaping a fenced area. The bars are designed to be wide enough so that hooves and legs will fall through, while cars can drive over them safely. This provides an effective barrier to animals without impeding wheeled vehicles, as the animals are reluctant to set foot on the grates.

Cattle guards are usually installed on roads where they cross a fenceline. They are an alternative to the erection of gates that would need to be opened and closed every time a vehicle passed. Cattle guards are seen throughout the world and are quite common in Australia, Scottish Highlands, England and of course Canada and the United States.

The concept of the cattle guard was originally conceived by an American named William J. Hickey in 1913. His patent was issued January 15, 1915.

Stock grid, vehicle pass, Texas gate, stock gap and cattle stop are a few of the names cattle guards are also known by.
