Geocache Description:

"TRI-MONTIUM” is a small series of three caches we have placed to celebrate Plasmawave’s achievement of reaching a “mountainous” 3000 cache finds. The caches are all placed on public footpaths. The path is quite steep in places, and can be muddy in wet weather

A nano-cache located close to the top of Gotham Hill.

“Trimontium” is actuallya Roman fort built by Gnaeus Julius Agricola in the Scottish Borders that takes its name (the “three hills” or “three mountains”) from the three peaks of the Eilden Hills, each over 1000 feet high. However, the cache site is not here. The distinction between “hill” and “mountain” has not been consistent in the UK. Some common definitions include a minimum height of 1000 feet, whilst other definitions suggest a mountain should be over 1000 m in height. If reaching 1000 caches is a momentous achievement then reaching 3000 caches is definitely mountainous or even “tri-montium.

The Trimontium caches are located around the top of Gotham Hill. At its highest point, about 98 m AOD, you will get a fine panoramic view of almost 360⁰. On a clear day you can see the Derbyshire hills to the west and the Wolds to the east. Across the valley to the east are the nearby West Leake Hills, and the Charnwood Hills can be seen to the south. The caches provide an opportunity to walk along the scenic and interesting Gotham Heritage Trail.

Cattle and sheep may be present in the fields en route and at the cache site - please keep dogs under control.

It is not suitable for pushchairs nor wheelchairs.

You will need to bring your own pen or pencil to sign the log sheet
