Geocache Description:



This is one of five caches that will contain a clue to the final sixth north cache. All of the Civil War North caches, will be north of PA route 422 and be named after famous North Civil War Generals. These caches will also take you on a scenic drive through western Berks county and Mrs. Blackbolt's stomping grounds. The Civil War South Caches will be south of PA 422 and named after famous Southern Generals an also contain clues for the final 6th south cache. Additionally there will be a bonus cache that can be found by combining clues from both of the final sixth caches.

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was born in Brewer, Maine on 9/8/1828. Chamberlain was first known as a professor, but came to fame during the second campain day at the battle of Gettysburg. During the battle of Gettysburg Chamberlain was put in command of the Union's Left Flank. Chamberlain and his men found themselves facing the rebels on a frontal assault while pushing and sweeping the Rebels down Little Round Top. By flanking the south, Chamberlain and his men were successful in saving the Union's Left Flank and capturing 101 confederate soldiers. For this one action the 20th Maine is a vital part of U.S. Civil war history. Chamberlain retured home a recipient of the Medal Of Honor and war hero for his leadership and gallantry during the Battle of Gettysburg. Chamberlain returned to his family and settled back into teaching after the war. Sadley on February 24, 1914 Chamberlain passed away as a beloved husband, professor and Civil War hero.
