This one should give cachers a wilderness-type experience in the confines of a big city. Park at the entrance to Glen Canyon Park off of Bosworth (where it turns in to O'Shaughnessy), you'll get a nice walk (about a mile round trip) in the woods to the cache. I recommend this as the way to get there. It'll take a bit of effort to ground zero, but once you are there, the cache should not be too difficult to locate. I obtained a couple sets of coordinates to within 3 or 4 meters accuracy and averaged the two. If you get something better, please let me know.
A few years ago, I was trail running in Glen Canyon Park but wanted to avoid the bluffs and cliffs where I usually run. I jogged past the bluffs, deep in to the canyon, on a trail with green blazes. I kept running and saw houses up to my right, but I craved more solitude. I took a spur trail that went over, around, and in the trickling waters of Islais Creek, deep in to the heart of Glen Canyon.
Eventually I reached a point where I could go no further. The thorny thickets were everywhere. Near the end of the path, I spotted a jet black egg, like one of those preserved Chinese century eggs. I picked it up and its contents shook; it sounded like a rattlesnake. I was so startled that I dropped it, but it didn't break. I returned to the location on my latest trail run, and the egg was still there. I placed it in a mason jar so that it remains preserved and displayed. PLEASE DON'T REMOVE THE EGG AS IT SHOULD REMAIN ON DISPLAY FOR OTHERS TO FIND.
In addition to the egg, the cache also has a log and room for items. Please bring a pen. Lastly, the park is open from 8am until 10pm, though doing this after dark might not be the best idea. Congrats to caccbag for the FTF!
