Geocache Description:

Please bring a pen or pencil- 35mm cache

A lovely location, this cache is accessible by public footpaths.

Messing is a small village that I used to cycle to from Tiptree.

Messing has previously been known as ‘Maesa’s settlement and Mething. There’s a prehistoric ditch and bank known as ‘the Rampart’, traditionally known as the site of Boudicca’s last battle with the Romans. Once referred to as the land of slaughter this is now a peaceful and pretty village.

Another claim to fame is that this village is the ancestral home of the Bush family, whose members have produced two presidents of the USA: George Bush and his son George W. Bush. The Bush family left for America in the 17th Century.
