Geocache Description:

Take a gentle walk through Grove Park.

Early Summer is best when the rhododenrums are out and you may find mulberries growing on the park's solitary tree.

Beware of muggles as you explore different plantings and copses to find this cache. A combination of old and new, Grove Park looks marvellous first thing in the morning before the visitors to the pond have fed the ducks so much bread that they sit there bloated and unmoving. There's evidence of old Birmingham here if you have time to look, the rhododendrums and acacias look great in May and June and if you're early enough you may even see a heron.

This municipal park has been so since 1936 when it was given to Birmingham by the fantasticly name Alderman Byng Kenrick. Once the site of the Victorian property "The Grove" was home to the first Squire of Harborne, Thomas Green who also owned the nearby Harborne House, which is now called Bishop's Croft and is home to the current Bishop of Birmingham. Harborne Hall is also nearby which was once a nunnery and is now a hotel. You can see pictures of the now-demolished Victorian property here.

Hidden in a copse, this cache is easily found if you're prepared to look around the base of a few trees. A film canister holds a small collection of objects once special to me and my children, hidden gems in a hidden gem of a park, which as a family we value greatly - it's beautiful at different times of year - enough space to have fun but small enough to feel safe. A bit like the container.
