This cache is a replacement for GC1ZK7C "Surprise attack" which was muggled.
A 5-10 minute walk through a "podocarp forest of giants" along a well maintained track to a historic reserve and grave site. This scenic reserve it is home to many native birds.
The start point is from a car park approx 10kms north of Taupo on SH5 towards Napier. The car park is a large pull-in from the highway which is busy and fast so watch kids and dogs when coming and going from the car.
Along the track there is a fork to a 30mins forest loop walk, which is well worth doing. The track has been recently updated, and is metaled.
There is also another loop track on the other side of the road through regenerating bush which is a bit longer, and goes throught the old Opepe village site.
The cache is a 35 mm film container housed in a metal case, you will need to bring your own pen or pencil.
