Somenos Red
Many grapes are used to make single grape variety wines, but it's also common for vintners to combine grapes to create a special 'blend' taste. An example of this is a wine called Somenos Red which combines equal parts of two locally grown grapes... Pinot Noir and Marechal Foch. Together they produce a rich but not over powering red which has flavours of berries, tobacco, oak and musky earth. It's supposed to be perfect with dark chocolate and send taste buds straight to heaven!
*Somenos is a local Cowichan Valley Indian tribe name which means 'a resting place'. On the nearby Cowichan River, canoemen rested before resuming their paddling upstream.
